Marylou + Herbie = A Lovely Story

Marylou loves Herbie,

Poetry fills her mind.

Herbie sees her poems,

Will Marylou he find?

Slugs in Love is an adorable love story, perfect for Valentine's Day or any other day. The text has a sweet creativity, the illustrations are darling, and the poetry nicely unites the illustrations and print. Children are able to problem solve with Marylou as she tries to get Herbie's attention and with Herbie as he tries to figure out just which slug is Marylou. The book is also a nice lead in to a discussion that poetry is a great form of communication. Marylou's a slug. Herbie is too. This is a book, especially for you!

Halloween's just hours away

. . . and you must know about this spooktacular book, Big Pumpkin. Interested in pumpkin pie, the witch plants a pumpkin seed. The pumpkin grows and grows and is so big that no one is able to pull it off the vine. Then, the bat has an idea! Will there be pumpkin pie after all?
Children will love the spooks found in this book. Schindler's illustrations are excellent. Also, Silverman's repetition and predictability allow children to chime in and read right along with you. In addition, the book is a wonderful introduction to a discussion about everyone having great ideas and that cooperation is a useful tool. No tricks, this book is definitely a real treat!
